Recycle IT are Blooming

Bloom in the Park is in its 10th year having been launched by Bord Bia in June 2007. The original aim for ‘Bloom’ was to promote Irish horticulture by providing a showcase for garden plants, garden design, construction, horticulture and gardening as a hobby. Well it worked, and 10 year on it’s an annual pilgrimage for well over 100,000 people to a 70 acre site at the heart of the Phoenix Park, close to Dublin City Centre.

WEEE Planters 

You might be asking yourself, what is an electrical recycling organisation doing attending the Irish premier horticulture event? In reply, Recycle IT repurpose and reuse washing machine and tumble dryer drums to promote the message of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. Drums recovered by Recycle IT are provided for use in community gardens, school gardens, and by Tidy  Town Groups across Dublin and Wicklow. We also have made drums available to keen gardeners and even movie makers to enhance their real and imaginary gardens. Bloom in the Park is an idea event to show people what can be achieved.

Recycle IT collect a range of electrical items daily including washing machines and tumble dryers. Our team select the best and work to prepare the drums for reuse” which includes, recovery, checking, cleaning, or removal operations. This leads to having drums which are reused as planters for trees, fruit, vegetables and flowers. Other garden uses include patio heaters and bbqs.

Community Reuse

Recycle IT attended Bloom 2016 as a member of the Irish, Community Reuse Network (CRN), an all Ireland representative body for community based reuse, recycling and waste prevention organisations. The  Community Reuse Network  does not operate any reuse or recycling services directly, however member organisations provide a range of reuse and recycling services.

Learning 

While attending the event the team visited other stands including stands from the best Irish food and beverages producers in the world. In our opinion the ‘Food Village’ was the most popular area and showed of the many positives of small, medium and larger Irish food and drinks producers. Our team got in insight into Ireland’s renowned fruit and vegetable industry and tasted a wide range of locally produced breads cheeses, juices and fruits in what was great weather and a wonderful venue. We also networked with other organisations and hopefully can help some recycle their old and once loved electrical equipment.
